Excellent Lumen Maintenance with DSEM Thermal Management Lumen maintenance is the terminology commonly used to compare the amount of light produced from a light source when it is brand new to the amount of light output at a specific time in the future. Lumen is the photometry unit for brightness of light source. For instance, if a luminaire produced 100 lumens when it was brand new and now produces 70 lumens of light after 30,000 hours, then it would have lumen maintenance of 70% at 30,000 hours. The requirement of lumen maintenance target is usually based on the end user application and the requirements predefine by customers.
Managing the heat emitted from the LED chip is the main design consideration to have excellent lumen maintenance. Advanced Metal Substrate (AMS), DSEM patented technology, is the best solution to date with lowest thermal resistance. DSEM AMS package can achieve as low as 0.25 K/W. A low Thermal resistance package allows quicker heat dissipation to maintain the junction temperature of the LED chips at lowest. This will enable the LED chip to maintain its performance for longer operation hours.
Advanced Metal Substrate (AMS)
AMS provides superior thermal properties with the embedded integral aluminium heat-sink option: ceramic matrix, very thin, low profile. High speed with the special via built of full aluminium of very low inductance. It can be fabricated with high routing density - metal layers having copper signal layers of <1/1 mil line/space. Apart from high power LED application, its superior thermal performance can be used in other applications such as for RF products, strip lines, wave guide structures and controlled impedance lines.

In AMS, no via drill and plating is required - the via is of solid full aluminium and the dielectric is of a high quality ceramic nature. The process is simple and low cost, and contains a low number of process steps.
